Terry Pratchett to talk about age & dying.
January 31st 2010
Tomorrow (Monday), the Dimbleby lecture will be given by Terry Pratchett. One of his proposals will be the establishment of assisted suicide tribunals.
I look forward to hearing all that he has to say for he is always eloquent and interesting. However, could the resulting diversion of monies from NHS services to lawyers' pockets ever be justified? If this could go before NICE (which it can't) I doubt it would get off the starting blocks. One figure that is often overlooked is that only @130 people have travelled to Dignitas in Switzerland in 10 years.
There is usually no right of reply on the televised lecture. We shall have to watch the subsequent debate played out over the following days.
